Sucks big time on Night by the sea
I tried to give this manhwa a chance and the benefit of the doubt, but I just can't get through it anymore. The plot isn't progressing anymore. It's just a continuous cycle of abvsed and oppr3ssion. I feel like the story revolves around dehumanizing Euihyun and how he suffers, which is saddening and terrifying to read. I can't even imagine what more those people truly experience it. Just the thought of it makes me tremble in fear and agony.
No matter I try to think logically about Taeju's behaviors and how people try to rationalize him. There's just nothing to it and it can never justify that what he did is a s3xval v10lenCe and that's what I need people to understand. The more you try to ignore the truth and glorify him, the more you'll also insult and disrespect someone who suffers from this. I know, I'm just a mere reader and I have no say in what you read. It's your own life anyway, you can do whatever you want, but you can't also expect us just to sit around and do nothing when the manhwa itself normalizes and justifies these kinds of atrocious acts. Moreover, the portrayals of victim and abuser of the author seem more romanticizing and fetishizing it, which can affect a certain minority and marginalized people who are represented in this story. I just hope the author did thorough research and talks about certain groups who've experienced the same thing, rather than basing his/her own ideology. What he did was a huge insult and disrespect to them.
One day, I hope I can see a better representation of these heavy topics in manhwas without them neglecting the sufferings of victims and glorifying the abvs3rs. I hope as a reader also, we can be more responsible reader and know our limitations. You can read or enjoy this kind of story at your own will, but I hope you can continue with your life without romanticizing and glorifying it. Also, always remember actions and behaviors may have explanations, but there's no justification for that either it's fiction or not.
