Meh on I Have Become The Heroes’ Rival
Okay, I am mad. For many reasons. I am mad because a whole fücking bottle of curry spice got dropped on my chicken today, since the doser got loose. I'm mad 'cause the curry got on my favorite sweater too. I am mad because the rice I made with it tasted like molten glass. And I am mad BECAUSE OF THIS MANGA. So, counting everything up, the review is this way due to, like, 60% the curry's fault, and the rest is because of I have Become the Heroes' Rival.
Nonetheless, I'm sulking. I am irritated. Miffed. This is a waste of godly art, and also of a fantastic set-up. The character design, the water effects, the sparkles. The muscles, the faces, THE OVERALL SCORCHING WET HOTNESS. It is just majestic. Beyond impressive.
And the tropes used? Those are great too. Both the "sismance with original FL" and the "se** demon inside goodboi's body" have untold potential. Especially the second one can deliver some thought-provoking developments about the themes of identity and change.
But the writing drops the ball. It lacks logical coherence in the scenes' sequence. It's bland, poorly thought-out, distracting. The pacing itself is erratic, with the plot losing its way all the time, and the characterization is "fine" at best. Frantic. It's a pity, too, because people tell me the original novel was way better. Some scenes do work, but those are between many that don't, or convey useless stuff. They botched the manga adaptation of the original work, that's the issue. It's not even the translation, even places with uploads from reputable scan groups do not fare much better than the usual shi*** TeenVandal version.
Still, do it for the pecs. And the marvelous starry gems Felix has in place of normal eyes. Concentrate on those. The mediocre writing is a penance we must bear for our hörny, sweaty souls.
Reccomended with a 7+ on the Ivern Scale™️. Such a g****** pity, forreal.
