Kinda bad on Melting Into You
Trigger Warning - severe misogyny, stalking/harassment, forced heat and sexual assault.
This omegaverse story has a good premise but it lets itself down as it goes on. To start with its all about their career goals and their use of each other to obtain those goals and there's good commentary on the unfairness of the alpha/omega and dominant/recessive social structure. As the story progresses, however, it devolves into the usual omegaverse cliches such as a jerk dominant alpha, forced heat, sexual assault, an unplanned pregnancy and the heteronormative "babies are a miracle and marriage will complete your life!" message, etc. The omega goes from being sassy and strong to a pathetic pushover who needs rescuing all the time. The recessive alpha only commits to the omega when he gets pregnant, pushing a baby-trapping message. The dominant alpha is just forgiven and his stalking, harassment and sexual assault of the omega is excused by "oh he's in love", "he did this one thing that wasn't awful" and the writer tries to make the reader feel sorry for him by the end. Erm..... No. That's obsession and criminal and it shouldn't be normalised or romanticized. There's even a part where a doctor tells the omega that they'd have great sexual chemistry with the alpha who sexually assaulted him. Like wtf?! Overall the writer puts forward completely irresponsible and dangerous messages to the readers, especially when you consider that most yaoi readers are young women. It's gross.
The art work is inconsistent; the omega gets smaller and more feminine as time goes on, which I don't like. The s** scenes aren't very frequent/long for the omegaverse and they're not very hot/se** in my opinion. There's also the sexual assault scene so watch out for that.
If you can't tell by now, I really didn't like this one. Such a shame because it had an interesting premise and a lot of potential but the writer completely messed it up. Avoid, avoid, avoid!
