Rocks on Hotel Pharus
It feels like classic romance movies. The way they speak and acts reminds me of movies like "An Affair to Remember", or "It happened one night"... There is like poetry in how they speak, as if you're reading a classic romance novel.
There is mystery but the plot is actually pretty straightforward. The reveals are something you can see a mile away. Even the characterizations aren't very complex. Or rather than simple, it's just calm. There's rarely any big or intense scenes, it's mostly quiet. Which is fitting since the setting is in a secluded hotel far away from civilization.
But, the script is very sophisticated. There's substance, there's meaning in their words. They don't have dialogues as fillers, every conversation has meaning and an agenda.
It does have a slow pacing, and it is the kind of story that is more on words than on actions so it might be boring for some. But those who appreciates a good script will find it enjoyable. It's the same feeling I get when I watch classic Hollywood movies (1930's -1960's).
I also appreciate the transition or movements in the art. Some other artists, when they draw a scene, they just draw a snippet or a still of that scene, and the next panel shows another scene. Here, there are panels dedicated to the movements in the scene. So, instead of just going from Shot A to B, it also shows you how the Shot went from A to B. Those additional details arr extra effort on the artists side, but it makes me understand the scene even more.
